SCHOOL CAPTAINS 2021

Dear Teachers and Students,

I am Aiza Saneej from Year 5, and I would like to explain why I would LOVE to be School Captain for the Year 2021. I would also like to include my thoughts and plans that I would like to share.

Becoming School Captain has been one of my goals for a very long time and today right now, I’m trying to prove to all of you that I would make a really good School Captain. I will make a difference.

Firstly, I would like to say that I’m convinced that this position is no child’s play. I will have many responsibilities that I’ll gladly undertake.

I would try my best to set an example for the younger kids and be a good role model for them.

You can count on me to make this school litter-free and also encourage others to do the same. It would be wonderful to see this school neat and clean.

I will always be there with a helping hand for students and teachers.

I also give you my word that I’m trustworthy and honest to the core.

I promise to be fair, confident and responsible. I will also try my best to stop bullying and help people during tough times.

I will make an attempt to persuade the school management to organise more fun activities and events to promote fundraising for everyone to enjoy. For example, more casual Fridays and themed dress up days.

I once again assert that becoming this school’s captain means so much to me. I humbly request you all to vote for me and give me a chance to make this school a better place.

Thank you and have a good day.

Please Note: Aiza Saneej has since been elected School Captain for 2021. We congratulate Aiza and wish her and others all the best for the New Year.

Dear students, teachers and Principal,

I am Hamza Sheriff from Year 5, taught by the best teacher in the world, Mrs Koktas and I am going to go for School Captain.

As you know no one is perfect, so if you vote for me I will try my best to be. The reason I think I will be a good School Captain is because I love to help people and I want to share some ideas with the school, which I will explain in a moment.

The reason I think I will be a good school captain is because I am well organised and responsible, so you know I will be able to keep up with my school work and the duties of a School Captain.

I am a good role model to everyone through things I do, like picking up rubbish around the yard, or completing homework on time and trying my best to obey school rules and values.

Now the ideas I wanted to share with you are the ideas I want to do if I am school captain.

As school captain I will also like to listen to everyone’s ideas and suggestions.

Thank you and have a great day.

CAMP

By Feyza Engin and Aiza Saneej

On the 16th and 17th November, Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 went to camp at Billabong Ranch, Echuca. There, we did horse riding, archery, pedal boating, trivia walk, night walk, commando course, animal feeding and mini golf.

It was a one-hour drive from Sirius College. When we first arrived, Kerri, the manager, introduced us to the place. Then the teachers showed us our cabins. After that we got split up into three groups. We were in Group One and we did trivia walk, which is where we had to answer a series of questions based on the ranch itself and some questions were about us and the staff there. The other groups did mini-golf and horse riding. The mini-golf had 18 different holes. Obviously, horse riding was everyone’s favourite! Feyza’s horse was Misty and Aiza’s was Felix! After that we just swapped activities.

We had lunch and then we did the commando course, which is like an obstacle race. For dinner we had lasagne with chips and a healthy salad, plus ice cream with fruit for dessert.

After dinner we went for a night walk with a goat called Amy which was pregnant! The next day for breakfast, we had cereal, toast, and orange juice. Then we did animal feeding. There were donkeys, llamas, goats, turkeys and emus. Then guess what! Humza in year 4 got his hand stuck in the feeding pipe and the teachers literally had to use oil to get it out!

We also did pedal boating. We went on a blue boat and Feyza’s hat fell into the water and it got so wet! After that we had lunch, (sandwiches), and then we went back to school. We had a great time!

A big thank you to the teachers for taking us.

I want to share my experience about our camp at Billabong Ranch, Echuca.

When I first got there I was excited as well as nervous. I was afraid of the horses because they were huge! But when I was on a beautiful horse named Perdy, I wasn’t scared anymore. We went on a 30-minute ride. It was fun!

We had a great time at Billabong Ranch, Echuca. We did horse riding, mini golf, paddle boats and feeding the animals. I just loved it! I hope we go to a camp next year as well.

We went to Billabong Ranch, and we did a lot of activities which gave my hands a lot of blisters.

It was really hot! It took about one hour to get to our camp. My favourite activity was horse riding.

At night, we got to play with glowing sticks and balls. The activities we did were paddle boats, trivia hunts, mini-golf, archery and the commando course. We fed the animals, played in the park and eventually we did the obstacle course.

First we came to the school with all of our luggage and then we went in the bus and it took about one hour to get to Echuca. When we arrived at the camp, everyone was excited. After, we put all of our bags on the side of the wall and the instructor, Jenny told us about all the rules. First my group went and did the trivia walk and I was the first one to finish.

Then we ate our snacks. After we went to do horse riding. Then on the second day, we did mini-golf which was my favourite. It had 18 holes, then we did paddleboats where I got so wet. We ate lunch, it was really yummy!

As the bus stopped, everybody in the bus looked out the window and saw where we were. ‘Billabong Ranch’ the sign read. After an hour on the bus, we were finally here. Everybody was jumping with joy while they were getting off the bus.

We got our luggage and put them out on the grass. We set off for our first activity, mini-golf. There were 18 holes to challenge us and some were hard and some were easy. Then we had our snack. We ate quickly because we hadn’t eaten since the morning. We were starving! After we ate, they showed us our cabins. Everyone was nervous as they would not be with their friends. But really, there was nothing to worry about. We all got to be with our friends.

After this we did a trivia walk, which tricked a lot of people. But after the trivia walk, we got to do HORSE RIDING which was so much FUN! At the start, lots of people were nervous and scared. But they got over their fears when the horses started moving. The horses were very friendly and cute. I would have to say these horses were very well trained and the managers were great at making sure we were 100% safe. I would say horse riding was the best activity there.

Then we ate our dinner which was a delicious vegetarian lasagne, big, fat and salty chips and a fresh, healthy salad. After our dinner we got DESSERT. Two scoops of delicious ice-cream. Then we had a little break and we met a cat which was so cute and cuddly. Then we went on a night walk with a pregnant goat. We walked and walked and walked! It was really tiring! When we got back (9:00p.m.), we went to our cabins to get some sleep. We got dressed into our p j’s and some people had showers.

You would think everybody fell fast asleep and had a good night sleep, but NO! After the lights were out, it went a bit like this. Chitter, chatter, whisper, talk, talk! Nobody would be quiet. Some people were trying to get to sleep especially the teachers. At one stage, the teachers got so grumpy that they left the door open and just watched us. They yelled and yelled. I guess they’re grumpy when they don’t get sleep. Finally, at around 12:30 a.m., everybody was quiet. At about 1:00 a.m., everybody was asleep.

I actually feel bad for the teachers. If you thought that was enough, the girls woke up at 6:00a.m. and they woke up everybody else in the cabin. We got dressed and packed up the cabin. Then we finally had breakfast which was toast and cereal YUM! Then we did animal feeding, there were llamas and ponies and MORE! Feeding animals was fun and it was cute how they licked your hands.

When we finished animal feeding we did the pedal boats with a partner. Sadly, lots of people dropped their hats in the water LOL! Then we did archery which was soooooooo hard. After all of this, we ate our lunch which was a sandwich that we got to make for ourselves. We got our luggage and went on the bus. It was home time and we enjoyed our time at the Billabong Ranch. It went so quick but it was fun. A special thank you to the Billabong staff for making our time their fun. A ‘Thank you’ to our Sirius College teachers for helping and organising this camp and of course for staying up to make sure we went to sleep.

We loved the Billabong Ranch.

As we got on the bus on the Monday 16th November, everyone was excited to be going to the camp. It was about a one hour ride and everyone got excited when the signs for ‘Billabong Ranch’ popped out. Finally, we arrived at Billabong Ranch. When we got settled, we had our lunch. Our first activity was mini-golf. Mini golf was so much fun and challenging. After that we did a trivia walk. We just had to answer some questions about the Billabong Ranch. Finally, we did a fun activity, horse riding. A lot of people were scared to do horse riding but at the end everyone loved it.

After we had lunch, we put our bags in the cabins, then we did low ropes and the commando course. When we did low ropes, we had to go under and over ropes attached to trees and in the commando course, we went through an obstacle course. Then we got a few minutes of rest and fed the animals next to a park which we also played in. After we did that, we had a very yummy dinner. For dinner, we had lasagne, chips and salad.

After we had a night walk, we brought our torches and a staff member brought a goat that was pregnant. Then everyone was tired and went to bed. During the night, a cat named Summer came into our cabin and scared everyone. Ali woke up so scared that he took his blanket and got off his bed because the cat was on his bed, then the cat went on Ayaan’s bed and he got scared too. Then Hamza got up from the top bunk and got the cat out of the cabin and it was so cold.

In the morning, everyone woke up and packed up their stuff. We had jam, butter, toast and orange juice for breakfast. Then we did the final two activities, pedal boating and archery. Pedal boating was one of the best activities, it was very easy and fun. After that we did archery. Archery was very hard and dangerous (if you were not careful with the bow and arrows). But it was still fun, especially since there were balloons with candy inside them. After we had lunch, we had to make our own sandwich with butter, bread, fruit and vegetables. After, we needed to go home, so we got the stuff in the bus but we still had time to play, so we went to the park next to the mini-golf centre and where the animals were. Humza, in Year 4, got his hand stuck in a feeding pipe which is sad. Then we were ready to leave so we got on the bus and headed home.

AWARDS CEREMONY

At Sirius College, Shepparton, the End-of-the-Year Awards for 2020 were distributed on Thursday 3rd December.

We awarded students for their efforts throughout the year. To me, awards for being Mr Cheerful, Mr Fix-it or Most Curious are as equally important as the other awards.

Unfortunately, due to the current health restrictions, we were not able to invite you to the ceremony. However, photos were taken, and I am attaching these pictures for you of your child during that class award ceremony.

I want to congratulate your child and all our students, for their hard work and resilience throughout this unique year, 2020.

Happy summer holidays!

Adem Engin
